 The Purpose of Scouting

Since Scouting started in 1907 by Robert Baden-Powell the purpose of Scouting has remained constant -The purpose of Scouting is to contribute to the development of young people in achieving their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potentials, as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities.

The Scout Group

28th West Lothian (1st Armadale) is part of West Lothian District which is one of the Districts in Forth Region

The Beavers, Cubs and Scouts meet in the Groups Headquarters in South Street.

Beavers meet on Monday evenings 6pm – 7pm

Cubs meet on Monday evening from 7pm – 8.30pm

Scouts meet on Friday evening from 7pm – 9pm.

History of the Group

The earliest record of Scouting in Armadale is before 1914. The earliest Scout and Scoutmaster is a John Muirhead who was Scout and then Scoutmaster with the Armadale Boy Scouts. Private John Muirhead died in 1916 in service of his country.

Minutes of the meeting of Armadale local Committee of H.R.H The Prince of Wales National Relief Fund held within the Territorial Hall  Armadale on Tuesday 22nd Sept 1914. The Treasurer report the help given by the Boy Scouts, and the committee in view thereof instructed the secretary to send a letter of thanks to the Scoutmaster and to intimate that free admission would be given to scouts in uniform to the concert to be held in the Picturdrome.
